➡️ How did your journey into IT begin?
My path into IT was anything but obvious. Before entering the industry, I was pursuing a PhD in experimental nuclear physics and working at a university. Analyzing experimental data taught me, among other things, programming, data analytics, and the fundamentals of machine learning.
The turning point came during the pandemic, when universities were closed. I joined a startup founded by my friends as a Data Scientist. Over time, I naturally gravitated toward Data Engineering and quickly discovered that the same kind of fascinating, complex, and technologically advanced challenges I had encountered in academia could also be found in the business world.
➡️ What do you do on a daily basis at PAYBACK?
I work as a Data Engineer, and together with my team, we develop a reporting system that measures the effectiveness of campaigns carried out with our partners.
While a report may seem simple from an end user’s perspective, creating it requires processing enormous amounts of data from multiple sources while ensuring its quality, consistency, and timely availability.
Our role is to design processes that transform data into reliable information that supports business decisions. The opportunity to solve complex problems and see the tangible impact of our work on the business is what gives me the greatest satisfaction.
➡️ Which skills are the most important in your job today?
Technology is, of course, very important, but over time I have learned that understanding business needs and knowing how to ask the right questions are just as essential.
Communication also plays a major role, especially the ability to translate complex technical concepts into language that is understandable to business stakeholders. What also surprised me is how important continuous learning is in IT. New technologies quickly become a natural part of your toolkit if you give yourself the space to experiment and explore.
